Formerly Desenzano del Garda was one of the major trading centres of northern Italy. The hub for countless goods such as grain and other agricultural products from the hinterland. On the market in Desenzano del Garda the goods were sold, loaded and shipped to Riva del Garda. From Riva the goods were send to the Alpine regions.
